Designing a Learning and Assessment Situation
ACROSS Teacher Training Academy
We believe in an educational future without borders.
Description
This course focuses on the design of Learning and Assessment Situations (LAS), pedagogical devices at the heart of competency-based education. It presents their defining characteristics, the types of activities suited to them, and the principles of instructional sequencing. A five-step operational process guides participants through the creation of an LAS. The course concludes with the quality criteria for evaluating an LAS, providing faculty researchers with a comprehensive framework for designing authentic assessment situations that are aligned with the targeted competencies.
Learning objectives / expected outcomes
• Identify the defining characteristics of a Learning and Assessment Situation (LAS) and distinguish it from other pedagogical devices used in higher education.
• Select the types of learning activities best suited to the design of a relevant and engaging LAS.
• Apply instructional sequencing principles to structure an LAS in a coherent and educationally sound manner.
• Design a complete LAS by following a five-step operational process.
• Evaluate the quality of an LAS using explicit criteria, ensuring its alignment with the targeted competencies and the overall programme design.
