Description

This course explores the theoretical foundations and practical applications of mentoring in higher education. It introduces mentoring as a key strategy for enhancing student success, academic integration, and professional development, while also supporting early-career academics and fostering institutional culture.
The course presents major mentoring models (formal and informal mentoring, peer mentoring, reverse mentoring, and group mentoring), highlighting their relevance in contemporary higher education systems. It examines the roles, responsibilities, and competencies of mentors and mentees, as well as the dynamics of effective mentoring relationships, including communication, trust-building, and ethical considerations.
Participants will explore how to design, implement, and evaluate mentoring practices and programmes within universities, aligning them with institutional goals and quality assurance frameworks. The course also addresses mentoring in diverse and inclusive educational contexts, emphasizing strategies for supporting students from varied socio-cultural backgrounds.
A dedicated component of the course focuses on e-mentoring and digital mentoring environments. It explores how online platforms, virtual communication tools, and learning management systems can support mentoring relationships beyond physical constraints. Participants will examine the opportunities and challenges of e-mentoring, including accessibility, engagement, digital communication skills, and the maintenance of trust and confidentiality in virtual settings.
Through practical activities, participants will develop mentoring plans, tools for monitoring progress, and reflective practices that enhance both personal and professional growth.
