Digital Conservation Practices at UNIUD: A Case Study of the Loggia di San Giovanni at the Piazza della Libertà in Udine
Across Alliance — e-Campus
Description
This seminar explores the practical application of cutting-edge digital tools in the preservation and documentation of historical architecture. Using the Loggia del Lionello in Udine as a primary case study, we will demonstrate how to bridge the gap between traditional masonry and digital precision. The session covers the workflow of translating complex classical geometry into BIM environments, the use of accessible smartphone-based photogrammetry to record the current state of conservation, and the technical challenges of 3D printing historical details. Participants will learn how these \'Digital Twins\' can be used to detect structural decay and provide a foundation for future VR simulations and restoration planning. It is an insight into how modern architects can use technology to protect and share our cultural heritage.
