Chemnitz University of Technology is a cosmopolitan university with strong regional, national and international networks. Home to about 2,300 academic and administrative employees and over 8,000 students from about 90 countries, it is the third largest university in Saxony. With almost 30% international students and cooperative relationships with 130 universities on every continent, TUC is one of the most internationally oriented universities in Germany.
Chemnitz was the European Capital of Culture 2025 — a city with years of positive development and a high proportion of highly qualified employees. As of 2025, TUC offers a total of 100 degree programmes, including 15 continuing education programmes. A particular hallmark is the high degree of interdisciplinarity — combining engineering and natural sciences with humanities, social sciences and economics.

TUC’s sustainability mission statement is based on the 17 UN global goals for sustainable development (Agenda 2030). The university aims to anchor sustainability in teaching and research on a permanent basis, creating an environment in which all members are encouraged to think and act sustainably across the board.
TUC links disciplinary fields with the requirements of sustainable development in both teaching and research, and is committed to reducing its environmental impact as much as possible. Compliance with legal environmental requirements is treated as a baseline, not a ceiling.
